the year 2017 is coming to an end, isn’t it? Christmas is over and now we’re just waiting for 2018 to finally begin. To be honest, I’ve been feeling very anxious lately – I mean, it’s quite normal to feel anxious, at least for me, but not this often – and I think it’s mostly because of the inevitable 2018 which scares me to death.
This is the year of Maturita exams, the year of CAE, and if everything goes well, the year of moving to Scotland. And even though I’ve been waiting for this for 5 years, I feel like I’m not ready at all.
But I guess that we’re never completely ready for those things that are about to come. We just need to jump right into it and see if we can make it or not. I hope I will (pleeease).
Anyway, I hope you’ve all had a great time during Christmas and that you got some lovely presents. I sure did. But before moving on to my December Favourites, I would like to ask all of you to check out those three links below…. Since I believe that Christmas is a celebration of love, unity and peace, and that we should help each other. At least now when we have some time to stop for a second and relax. I know that we’ve all spent a fortune on Christmas presents, nevertheless I still think that trying to make this world a better place is one of the best presents we can give – and not only to others, but also to ourselves. Because I truly believe that helping other beings is the best way to lead a happy peaceful life.
2. CONTRIBUTE TO SAVING TURTLES – the website is in Czech since it’s a Czech organisation which helps protecting turtles on Pulau Banyak islands near Sumatra, Indonesia. I’ve been there, therefore I know that the project is reliable.
3. HELP PEOPLE IN AFRICA AND ASIA – Člověk v tísni is a reliable Czech organisation as well and on this website you can choose your own present which will then be used to help others. I chose A Happy Girl – my money goes to education for women in Nepal.
Alrighty, now let’s do the Favourites! Get ready because this is going to be a very long list.
THE FIGHT CLUB by CHUCK PALAHNIUK
This is another book for my Maturita exam that I’ve been reading this month for the second time. And it’s still brilliant! I don’t really agree with the idea of destruction being the saviour of everything but it’s really fascinating. And I LOVE the critics of consumerism. I’ve also seen the film for the first time in my life and that Brad Pitt guy is really… uhm… BRAD PITT.
FANTASY BOOKS EVERYHWERE
Alright, so this month I started reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in French, I got the books 3 and 4 for Christmas together with the Storm of Swords by George R. R. Martin (over 1200 pages of blood, death and Tyrion, yay!) and I also finally started reading the first book (The Colour of Magic) of Discworld – it’s been amazing so far. Fantasy is everywhere!
I’ve been wanting this t-shirt for at least a century. It’s perfect – it sends out the message but it also doesn’t just shout VEGAN at strangers (don’t get me wrong, I like vegan t-shirts but I personally prefer those who show some clearer message). My best friend gave it to me for Christmas because she’s awesome and the next thing is also from her:
THE LITTLE POCKET BOOK OF MEDITATION by STEPHANIE BROOKES
This book is great. I haven’t finished it yet but I already love it – it always calms me down whilst reading it and I have been practising meditation a lot more lately thanks to it. The design is also super lovely and relaxing.
THE NIGHT WE MET by LORD HURON
STAR WARS – THE LAST JEDI
I never really understood that huge obsession with Star Wars. Until I saw it. I watched The Force Awakens (that was quite alright) and then I went to the cinema with my best friend who loves it. And that film was GREAT. After we left, we kept talking about the topics concerned there for two hours. The movie is funny, it’s gripping, it’s tense and there are also beautiful thoughts. The whole concept of the Force amazes me. An energy that unites everything in the universe, that keeps the existence in balance, that means Life and Death at the same time. I wish I could be a Jedi.
I received and ordered so many eco products this Christmas that I will write a whole another post about it. I’m always so happy when I make another step towards a zero-waste life with causing no harm.
SORTING OUT MY WARDROBE
I finally did it. I sorted out my wardrobe. I gave half of it to charity. No useless clothes that you never wear anymore! If you have many clothes as well but you feel too sorry to throw it out because just in case – I advise you to let it go. In 90% just in case means actually never. Getting rid of those things means setting yourself free. More clothes, more things = more imprisonment. Let’s try to embrace minimalism. ❤
I can’t believe I had not seen this film until 24th of December 2017. Everyone knows Love Actually. I did not. But I do now and oh my god, it’s THE BEST CHRISTMAS FILM EVER! Keira Knightley, Alan Rickman, Colin Firth, Mr. Bean (I know that’s not his name but to me, it’s Mr. Bean), Martin Freeman and Hugh Grant? So much British acccent that it makes me want to cry? Beautiful stories full of love and so many funny jokes? From now on, this is my official must-watch film for every Christmas.
Uf. I think that’s it. There are many more things but that would be way too exhausting to write AND to read. I hope I’ll have more time to blog this year as there are still many topics that need to be mentioned and many things that I would like to share with you. For now, I wish you all a Happy New Year! Let’s make it a great one!
